AUNG SAN SUU KYI NEEDS YOUR HELP
Aung San Suu Kyi faces her oppressors this week on charges that could land her in jail for five years. The trial comes just days before she was set to be released from house arrest. Her life is on the line. Aung San Suu Kyi's health is at risk, and five years of torture and abuse at the infamous Insein prison could spell disaster. Our rapid response to these developments started last week in Australia (a member of ASEAN) and Hong Kong when the we have mobilized and generated over 7,000 letters to ASEAN. Just a few hours ago, the chairperson of ASEAN called on Myanmar to release Aung San Suu Kyi. Yet, there are still 2,100 political prisoners remain in Burmese prisons. With the international pressure snowballing, we are calling for the world's leaders to urge the Burmese junta to stop persecution of and release all political prisoners immediately and unconditionally.
PUBLIC PETITION AND CANDLE VIGIL
日期: 2009年5月22日(五) 時間: 17:00-19:00 (公開信聯署行動) 19:00-19:30 (燭光晚會) 地點: 鄰近尖沙咀地鐵站A出口與九龍公園入口的公眾地方(九龍清真寺側) Myanmar's pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has been charged by the military regime of the State Protection Act. She was accused of allowing an American man to stay overnight in her home, an apparent violation of her long-term house arrest, her lawyer said. According to Burma Partnership (BP), the new charge brought against Aung San Suu Kyi is completely erroneous and only meant to extend her already unlawful detention. The trial of the world’s only imprisoned Nobel Peace Laureate stands as a firm marker of the regime's defiance against the world and its own people. Step forward to support our public event by signing your name and by attending the candle vigil as part of the "Free Burma's Political Prisoners Now" campaign, which launched an online petition urging UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to step up measures for the release of all political prisoners. The campaign commemorates 8.8.88, the day the junta massacred some 3,000 people who courageously protested in Burma’s largest democracy uprising. Join us to call for freedom and democracy in Burma and for the immediate release of all political prisoners. Date: Friday, May 22 Time: 17:00 - 19:00 (Public Petition Signing) 19:00 - 19:30 (Candle Vigil) Location: Public space near Tsimshatsui MTR Exit A1 and entrance of Kowloon Park, beside Kowloon Mosque (corner of Nathan and Haiphong roads).
