Erwadi tragedy：Mental health outfits to light candles, remember dead

The Schizophrenia Awareness Association (SAA) and the Centre for Advocacy in Mental Health (CAMH) will light candles in 25 different cities in remembrance of the 25 persons who lost their lives as they were deprived of their basic human rights at the coastal hamlet of Erwadi in Tamil Nadu.

August 6 marks the tenth year of the Erwadi tragedy. It was on this day 25 mentally ill persons were burnt alive in a fire at the mental home, in Erwadi, Tamil Nadu. They could not escape as they were chained. As we now enter the 10 th year of the tragedy, the organizations working in the field of mental health have decided to light 25 candles in 25 difference cities, according to a press release issued by SAA. 根据被SAA 发行的一个新闻稿，在我们现在进入悲剧的第10 个年头的时候，在精神健康的领域中工作的组织已经决定在分别25个不同城市的25根蜡烛。
In Pune, SAA and CAMH will organise a daylong programme displaying literature on mental illness and posters on mental health awareness at the Lower Recreation Hall of Ferguson College. There is also a panel discussion from 4.30 to 6.00 pm.
